BOULDER, CO. – (November 14, 2013)Complimenting the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County’s resolution to embrace renewable energy, community solar developer Clean Energy Collective (CEC) is proud to announce the official launch of the Aurora/Arapahoe Community Solar Array, the first community-owned solar garden to serve the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County. A November 20th public grand opening event will recognize the milestone.
“We are excited to bring community solar to the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County,” said Tom Sweeney, Clean Energy Collective’s chief operating officer. “It’s particularly noteworthy if you’ve been interested in using clean energy but haven’t been unable to due to rooftop shading or you rent your property. I hope everyone will come out and celebrate with us.”
Along with representatives from Clean Energy Collective and Xcel Energy, the event will feature Aurora Mayor Pro Tem Marsha Berzins, former Colorado State Senator Suzanne Williams, and Denver EPA Administrator Shaun McGrath.
The 498 kW, 1,684-panel array, built on 4.5 acres of otherwise unusable land owned by the City of Aurora Water Department, provides the opportunity for residential and business customers served by Xcel Energy to switch to clean solar power by purchasing panels in the shared utility-scale array without having to install a stand-alone system of their roof. Community solar customers receive all the same rebates and incentives as residential system owners, and credit for the power produced appears directly on an owners’ monthly Xcel Energy bills. The array is sited and maintained to operate at peak efficiency, delivering clean, dependable power for as long as 50 years.
Aurora/Arapahoe Solar Array Grand Opening Date: November 20, 2013 Time: 12:00 p.m. Location: 790 N. Tower Road Aurora, CO 80011 Access: Free and open to everyone Information: (800) 646-0323, info@morecleanenergy.com In 2010, CEC established the first community-owned solar garden in the country near El Jebel, Colorado. Since that time, CEC has installed 5.8 MW of community solar in Colorado. The Aurora/Arapahoe Solar Array is the fifth of 11 community solar facilities CEC is building under Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards Community program, totaling nearly 5 MW of distributed power generation to serve customers in Denver, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Boulder, and Summit Counties and the City of Aurora.
