BOULDER, COLO. (April 17, 2013) Pioneer solar garden developer Clean Energy Collective (CEC) announced today that Denver will be getting its first ever community-owned solar garden, which will be strategically “planted” on the roof of 1930s-era Hangar 2 building at Lowry.

Part of Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards Community program, created in response to the 2010 Colorado Community Solar Gardens Act (HB 10-1342), the 375kW Denver/Lowry Solar Array is the first project to serve Xcel Energy’s Denver County customers.

CEC’s community solar model allows any utility customer the opportunity to participate in locally-based clean energy production-including renters, properties with poor solar exposure, and individuals of all income levels-without the need to research or install a home-sited or rooftop system.

Xcel Energy’s Denver County customers will be able to buy as few as one panel in the Denver/Lowry Solar Array, or as many as needed to completely power a home or business. Members will receive all of the same rebates and incentives of home-sited systems, and still reap the benefits directly on their monthly electric bills.

Residents of the Lowry neighborhood will be offered the first chance to reserve panels in the Denver/Lowry Solar Array, which is expected to sell out quickly based on initial demand. CEC is commemorating this milestone April 22 with a “groundbreaking” ceremony and Earth Day celebration, including a tree planting on site to symbolize Colorado and Lowry’s mission to improve our planet and community. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to attend

The 1,500+ panel community-owned solar array will complement the existing solar “skylights” on the curved roof of this award-winning historic building, and will allow Denver and the Lowry Community to continue their international leadership with appropriate and sustainable adaptive use of historic buildings.
