Community-owned solar gardens allow a family or business to own solar panels that are installed at a common location and not on their rooftop. The Clean Energy Collective currently has two solar arrays in the Holy Cross Energy district that are community-owned. CEC maintains the panels to produce maximum energy output. The consumer sees a credit on their monthly utility bill, just as if they had the solar panels on their roof.

Many people who were previously unable to take advantage of solar energy because of the high cost, not having an ideal location or being a renter can now own panels through community solar. Community-owned solar gardens are affordable. You can start out with one panel and expand over time, or you can buy multiple panels and start seeing significant savings on your electricity bill right away.
