CARBONDALE, COLO. – (January 24, 2014) Timing for Holy Cross Energy customers considering a community solar PV purchase through Clean Energy Collective is now an even more important factor. New changes in Holy Cross Energy’s WE CARE renewable energy rebate program should be considered when calculating capital requirements and maximizing returns on a solar PV system purchase.

Currently the cooperative utility, which delivers power to parts of the Roaring Fork and Eagle valleys as well as some of the lower Colorado River Valley, provides $1.50 per Watt, or $1,500 per kilowatt, rebate for renewable energy generation up to a maximum system size of 6 kW, or $9,000 per installation. Effective March 1, 2014, Holy Cross Energy will migrate to a tiered structure for program rebates that decrease the per-Watt rebate while increasing the system size cap.

The new rebate structure is as follows:

System Size

Current Incentive

 New Incentive

0 – 6 kW

$1,500/kW

$1,250/kW

6 – 12 kW

0/kW

$1,000/kW

12 – 25 kW

0/kW

$500/kW

As a result, CEC community solar customers are encouraged to buy up to 6 kW by the end of February to qualify for the current $1.50 per Watt rebate. Customers considering more than a 6 kW system will then be eligible for rebates on additional purchases made after March 1st. Note that purchases must be initiated by February 17 to ensure enough time to close before March 1.

“Rebate programs are going to change, and we want to make sure those people are ready to make the move to locally-made clean power get the highest rebates possible,” said CEC president Paul Spencer. “Holy Cross has been on the leading edge of community solar since the beginning, this is where it all started.”

Holy Cross Energy’s WE CARE program started 10 years ago and Holy Cross Energy continues to be engaged in an internal carbon reduction strategy designed to slow the growth of carbon dioxide emissions created in the generation of electricity used by its consumers.
